ALL AROUND JORDAN
All Around Jordan
Welcome to The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, a land immersed in history. Many have set foot in this beautiful country and left a mark with a story to tell. In the Capital you witness the perfect combination of a modern lifestyle and ancient history. Amman quickly becomes familiar; it is where you find most of your favorite brands and chains, and it is the base from which you set out to explore the region.
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was founded by King Abdulla I after World War I. King Abdullah II assumed the throne with his father, the late King Hussein of Jordan’s death in 1999. Jordan has grown into a modern nation that has enjoyed a remarkable measure of peace, stability, and growth in recent decades.
Culture
Jordanians are welcoming by nature. Since the beginning of time, Jordanians have been exposed to multiple cultures, peoples, and travelers. Deeply rooted in our tradition is the art of welcoming guests, making them feel at home, and sharing art, history and hearty meals with them.
Some of the best ways to experience the Jordanian culture.
Stargazing has never been so mesmerizing. Experience the life of the Bedouin desert dwellers at Wadi Rum and learn all about how they survive the harsh climate. For the ultimate experience, you should spend the night.
Forests, greenery, and a beautiful countryside, the rolling mountains of the north are a must see. On your way to the north of Jordan, there’ll be farmers on the sides of the street selling their freshly picked produce.
This bed of water lies at 430 meters (1,412 ft.) below sea level and is 9.6 times as salty as the ocean. The high salinity of the Dead Sea makes it a harsh environment in which plants and animals cannot flourish, hence its name.
History
When it comes to history, and historical sites, Jordan has plenty. Wherever you go in Jordan, there’ll be remains of empires and civilizations long gone. Here are three places that are an absolute must. For more suggestions, please visit http://www.visitjordan.com/
Petra – Wadi Mousa
Petra cannot be described in words; it’s one of those wonders you have to see to believe. Huge, mesmerizing and more than 2000 years old, Petra is carved into huge rose-red mountains by the departed Nabataeans. Many civilizations had added wonderous footprints in Petra as well. It’s important to note that Petra is about a 4-hour drive south of Amman; ideally, you need a full day to visit.
Jerash – Jerash
Jerash is around 45 minutes to an hour north of Amman. The Graeco-Roman city dates back to the 4th century BC and flourished in the 2nd century BC. Jerash fell into a decline when shipping became the main route for commerce. Jerash is a fantastic location to learn about the progression of different faiths or religions.
Citadel – Amman
Amman’s incredible history is told with numerous Roman, Byzantine, and early Islamic remains at the Citadel. Once there, make sure you stop by the Archaeological Museum, The Umayyad Palace, The Temple of Hercules, The Byzantine Church, and the Roman Theatre.
